I skyped into the MAt Reading group on Friday. I did audio only as the Furtherfield wireless was still wonky. It was interesting to view out and know I am not seen. I was less incline to focus on the discussion and tended to do other tasks and walk away from the computer. When I forgot to put the mute on, the group could hear me typing and sighing. Near the end of the discussion, I had left the laptop and when I got back the connection was broken. I assumed they realized I wasn’t there.
Actually, Saul forgot I was there and just closed down the laptop. Sam commented how it felt like they had closed me up in the computer.
Educational on how easily to be ignored when a common object as pointed out in earlier conversations.
Sorry Pollie! I really didn’t mean to slam the laptop lid on you
It was interesting to hear you sighing actually – which I interpreted as you being about to talk – possibly erroneously. Were they sighs of frustration? Wistful sighs (were you looking at pictures of baby hedgehogs?) Sighs of exhaustion (if someone does a painting of a tree that fell in a forest when nobody saw it…). Anyway, that was interesting – to note how aware I was (at least) of intakes of breath as a marker for you being about to say something.
Are you going to skype in again next Friday? If so, we should find you a more interesting avatar than my laptop. Maybe we could rig up a pushbutton with a red light when you want to talk or something…
X
Saul.
I good idea. I like the idea of playing with physical objects standing in for me in at MAT reading group. I will put together a prototype of something for MAT next Reading Group April 1. [fools] how appropriate. ;O
I did start working on ambi-presence for skype on Sunday. Found some sample Arduino-skype code. Worked for a bit then went wonky and couldn’t get it back. Based on Brain Soup’s experience. A) we are even and B) definitely needed ambi-presence. or a double screen laptop.
